Good morning Reader
Since Ella’s hospital visit (she’s absolutely fine now), we’ve been in recovery mode. Kev has been powering through to get the bathroom finished — we’re 98% there now, and honestly, I’m just looking forward to getting our life back to a rhythm that feels slower and create a new routine.
Our bathroom renovation has been dragging on for almost eight months, but this weekend I was in my element — I finally got to paint! I chose a colour that’s totally out of my comfort zone because I wanted something different. Watch this space for photos soon...
Ella and I were also down with a cough and cold, which added another layer. So I’ve been thinking a lot — about life, business, home, and family.
One of my goals this year was to show up more on social media and share more about what we do. It’s a great free tool to connect with people and let them know how we can help. But honestly? When life throws stuff your way, it’s the last place I want to show up.
And yet, maybe that’s exactly what people do want to see — the real-life stuff. The messiness and fun of it all. How we handle the wobbles, not just the best parts of life.
Because for me, Ayurveda and Yoga aren’t just things I “do” when I’m on my mat or taking herbs. They matter most in moments like these.
In the daily flux, when everything’s shifting — my favourite phrase comes back to me: “Right now, it’s like this.”
So in these moments, I…
🌀 Breathe — sometimes it’s alternate nostril breathing, sometimes it’s Brahmari (bumble bee breath), and sometimes it’s just a deep sigh in the car.
🌀 Meditate — a few quiet moments while trying to get Ella to sleep (especially when she refuses), or while waiting between clients or classes.
🌀 Move — gentle stretches to ease the stiffness from painting walls, carrying a heavy toddler, or releasing a niggle in my back and hip (most likely from lifting a heavy toddler).
🌀 Make Remedies — tea and syrup for coughs, simple Ayurveda remedies from our kitchen for Ella and me.
🌀 Prescribe — herbs for clients, making blends and thinking through what will support their body best.
🌀 Shop — our weekly food shop is influenced by Ayurveda
🌀 Reflect — especially when I catch myself reacting to Kev, Ella, the dogs… usually when I’m tired and overwhelmed.
This is real life, this is real yoga practice. Not headstand or downward dog, it's not perfect, in fact it's been super messy and chaotic.
But would I change it? No! I'm sure I'll look back and miss these moments.
Right now, it’s like this.
Love
Jo & Kev
